Remove K9

Postby Epoc on Sun Aug 27, 2006 2:55 pm

I no longer need to use K9 but the email address I used when signing up is no longer valid and I do not remember the password, short of formatting the computer any way to get rid of it?

I have just registered with this forum to try and find an answer for my question, and then I find streetwiz is asking exactly what I want to ask!

So, is there a genius out there who can answer the question, perhaps a response from someone at Blue Coat?

I have this exact same problem. They need to give us a removal tool and fast. This is ridiculous.

StupidProgram

Hey I just love that name!

I know this is free software, but I did not install it, I only inherited it on a clients pc. We all know that when we install software the provider does not accept responsibility if goes wrong. (in the part of the world where I live, thats called tits up).

By the overwhelming silence and lack of any form of support from Blue Coat, it just assures me never to purchase or recommend any services from this company to any of my clients.

I have had to format and totally reinstall everything less the dog realpoo!

If you contact our support system, you will find instructions on how to remove K9. There is *never* a case where you need to reformat your computer. Going through the appropriate support channels, you will be able to be helped to uninstall K9. (provided you truly *are* the administrator of the computer).

Again, let me reiterate - there is never a case where you need to reformat your computer. Even if you don't remember the password, and don't have access to the email account, we can help you get it uninstalled.

Search our knowledgebase for instructions on uninstalling K9 and see if the solutions listed there work for you. The instant support system "learns" - so if the solution listed *doesn't* work for you, tell it so, so that we can start improving it.

I contacted support, after some security procedures everything was sorted and I was able to remove it. I found support to be very helpful and understanding, and I think for what it does, and the price, this is an excellent program.

I agree with the Blue Coat folks - its too easy for a kid to ask how to uninstall this program, pretending to be an adult. I've been searching for YEARS to find a program I trust installing on my computer that would not only work, but not be spyware, slow down the computer, or screw up other programs. The fact that its free is incredible, and we shouldn't be overly critical.

if you control alt delete and find the k9 in the processes you can right click on it and stop it from running then you have to go into program files and are able to delete k9 which will uninstall it.

Custom Blocking

Postby ssavpy on Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:17 pm

I say there should be a text editor within K9 that lets you completely customize what comes up when a page is blocked. I prefer this one:
Access Denied (policy_denied)

Your system policy has denied access to the requested URL

For assistance, contact your network support team.

mkskeith: If you attempt to uninstall K9 by that method, you will be very sad to find that your computer will be in a state which is quite difficult to recover from - and you will need to contact K9 support to repair your intallation.

How long do we wait?

Postby dobluecoatsupportproducts on Tue Jun 05, 2007 8:03 am

Would anyone from K9 care to comment on how long it takes their Support Team to respond to our requests please?

If you are going to make your software so difficult to uninstall, as security software, then do you not think a response within 24 hours is reasonable?

In regard to the ability to remove the filter without the password, it appears that the method I described ---- no longer works!

I would appreciate hearing from c/s that indeed they did something to resolve this problem. If so, thank you indeed. :D

I think that's pretty key right there to a lot of threads like this.
