ProxyClient Version 3.1.3.1

Release Date: 02/05/2009
Build: 37611
Document Revision: 1.5 on 02/05/2009

New Features In This Release

This release introduces the following new features:

* Client Manager connectivity not required during installation

You can install the ProxyClient software onclient computers without a connection to the Client Manager. This enables you to install the software in more environments, including on machines that have not yet been connected to the network.

After installation, the ProxyClient checks Client Manager connectivity every 10 minutes until it downloads a configuration.

* Configurable internal Web server port

By default, the ProxyClient’s internal Web server listens on port 8000. You can cause the Web server to listen on ports 1024 to 65534, inclusive. If the port you specify is in use, the ProxyClient attempts to use the next-highest port until an available port is found. If the maximum value is reached, the ProxyClient starts over at port 8000.

For more information, see the discussion of the DefaultWebPort registry setting in Chapter 12, Accelerating and Controlling Micro-Branch and Mobile User Connections (ProxyClient), in Volume 5: Advanced Networking.

* CIFS protocol acceleration for SMB 2.0

The ProxyClient accelerates CIFS traffic to servers that use the SMB 2.0 protocol.

Fixed In This Release

* CIFS protocol optimization performance has been improved to reduce CPU utilization. (B#107089, SR2-165349691)

* After a software update has finished installing, ProxyClient tray icon displays as (reboot required).

Before this issue was resolved, the ProxyClient Web browser window displayed a Software Update Installing dialog box that did not clearly indicate the software update was complete. (B#107376, SR2-165635724)

* Safe search engines supported by ProxyClient Web filtering are now: Google, A9, Altavista, Microsoft Live, Yahoo, Ask, and Orange.co.uk. (B#107227)

Known Issues In This Release

* The OmniTrust Web browser plug-in is not compatible with ProxyClient Web filtering. Due to a known issue with the OmniTrust plug-in, Internet Explorer crashes if the user browses to any Web site when ProxyClient Web filtering enabled.

Blue Coat strongly recommends users stop or uninstall the OmniTrust browser plug-in if they use ProxyClient Web filtering. (B#106647)

* Blue Coat Reporter and Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0: Duplicate entries appear in the ProxyClient Web filter logs—one entry for the user’s account and one entry for SYSTEM.

This issue is caused by Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0. (B#106757)

* If you enable Web filtering log uploads, the current upload interval must expire before a change to the upload interval takes effect.

For example, if the upload interval is every 24 hours (the default) and you change it to 12 hours, 24 hours must elapse after the ProxyClient receives the configuration update before the 12 hour interval takes effect. Each change to the update interval is measured from the time the ProxyClient receives the configuration update.

Continuing the previous example, suppose the ProxyClient gets a configuration at noon with a log update interval of 24 hours. The soonest a log update interval change would take effect is at noon the next day. (B#108141)
