Cannot "VPN" with Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"

Postby wbj on Wed Oct 07, 2009 7:38 am

I recently upgraded my Mac laptop from Mac OS X 10.5 to Mac OS X 10.6. Since the upgrade I have not been able to "vpn" into my company's network.

Using Safari Version 4.0.3 (6531.9), I get the following message:

"Your computer cannot automatically download and install the Blue Coat Connector.

"With this browser, the Blue Coat Connector requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), version 1.4 or later.

"If you need to install the JRE, you can download it here:
http://www.java.com/
"If a JRE (version 1.4 or later) is already installed, check your browser settings to verify that Java is enabled.
"If you are unable to resolve these issues, you may be able to access a limited amount of connectivity through the Secure Reverse Proxy."

The Safari preferences pane indicates Java is enabled, and the Java version, indicated below, is 1.6.0_15.

wbj ~ $ java -version
java version "1.6.0_15"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-219)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-90, mixed mode)

You might want to try another Java version.

keving,

Thanks!

Are you suggesting I "downgrade" the JVM the Apple ships with Mac OS X 10.6? I'd prefer not to do that. There are several other Java-based apps that launch and perform properly using the Apple-supplied JVM. I hope Blue Coat will be able to upgrade soon.

Upgrade or downgrade, it was just a shot in the dark.

You can try 1.6.0_16
