K9 crashes Firefox – Windows Vista

Postby wesnwilma on Thu Oct 29, 2009 5:03 pm

K9 causes a blue screen crash of Windows Vista in the following scenario.

Go to http://www.photosynth.com. Select “Toggle grid view and 3D view” below any synth and Vista bluescreens, every time. If I uninstall K9 it does not crash. It does not crash in IE8 with K9 installed.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: bckd.sys

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

I installed K9 on a laptop and a netbook Monday and used the same password for both licenses - just out of habit. The vista laptop has been blocked from all internet activity ever since. K9 says it cannot even send me a temp password via email, although I can access my email and it has since the crash downloaded a new license and emailed me the license key... I run Norton 360, which has never had any issues with K9 on our home computer. Windows cannot uninstall it - K9 wants my password which it does not recognize... Glary Utilities does not uninstall it, but has a "file shredder" which can remove it, but K9 is in the internet cache or something... How do I do an complete uninstall from dos prompt or do you have a patch?

I redownloaded and have a new license key... but it has not installed. When I click on the K9 icon on the laptops desktop, I get "cannot connect to 127.0.0.1:2743" or 2473 or whatever the last 4 digits are...

Can K9 send me a patch or even a temp password to get a complete uninstall then reinstall. I like the product. I want to keep it.
